reliable sources

Using reliable sources relates to academic and professional success because it helps us make well-informed decisions rather than uninformed and even misinformed decisions. It also helps us stay connected to people who also value the importance of sound information. I want to rely on reliable people, and I want them to rely on me. This is what makes a team. We rely on each other.  If any team member relies on unreliable information, and all the other team members rely on the unreliable team member, then the team is unrealiable! On the other hand, if we, as individual members of a team take full responsibility for the validity of the sources we rely on, then we become a reliable team!

Knowing the importance of relying on realiable information is simple. The hard part is recognizing the many ways of deception being used to make misinformation seem reliable and nonsense seem logical. These are the obstacles that boggle my mind!

Semantics Communication and Understanding

I’m thinking we can understand a lot more about thinking and communication by understanding  semantics.  For example, I am writing an essay about the importance of using reliable sources in academic and professional life.  Reliable is the keyword to this thought.

Using reliable sources relates to academic and professional success because it helps us make well-informed decisions rather than uninformed and even misinformed decisions. It also helps us stay connected to people who also value the importance of sound information. I want to rely on reliable people, and I want them to rely on me. This is what makes a team. If any team member relies on unreliable information, and all the other team members rely on the unreliable team member, then the team is unreliable! On the other hand, , if we, as individual members of a team take full responsibility for the validity of the sources we rely on, then we become a reliable team!

Notice the emphasized words in the last paragraph. They are convey the same semantics but are used grammatically different. Do you think this makes for a clearer or a more vague act of communication.

The Challenges of Written Communication

Written communication can present challenges to good communication. For example, the reader cannot see the face nor hear the voice of the writer. Also, the writer cannot see nor feel the facial expressions of the reader. In order to overcome these challenges, we need to develop strategies and skills to assure our messages, as writers, are being clearly understood by the reader, and to assure we, as readers, are clearly understanding the message of the writer.

Relationship of Goals Week 4

One thing I learned the last three weeks is that I need to establish principles to help me reach my goals. One principle I decided to start following is to post at least one participation post before I engage in leisure time or do any other research outside the scope of this course (i.e., watch YouTube).

I also plan on following a principle of making at least some progress on the weekly assignment every day of the week.  I think by following these principles, I will be better prepared to reach all my other goals.

Over the last three weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about my goals and how they relate to each other. One of my goals is to earn a Bachelor’s degree in two years or less. I have another goal which is to share my experiences in an online blog that people will read and understand. I believe that by pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, I will gain the skills and insight to reach my goal of creating the blog. But I have another, more urgent goal of completing this class with a passing grade. In order to reach that goal I have another goal of finishing my assignments for this week.

My extrinsic motivation to reach for my goal of completing this week’s assignment on time and to the best of my ability will help me reach my other extrinsic goal of completing this class with a passing grade. And I am extrinsically motivated to reach that goal because it will help me to achieve my other extrinsic goal of earning a Bachelor’s degree. By reaching this goal, I believe I will be better prepared to reach my intrinsic goal of creating a blog that people will find insightful.
